Bhadra Tiger Reserve covers a large stretch of forest on the slopes of Chandra Drona Parvatha, including Mullayanagiri. It is home to tigers, leopards, elephants, gaur, sambar, wild dogs and a huge variety of birds. The Muthodi range is the side closest to Chikkamagaluru town and to us.
Getting there
About 23 km from Tranquil Terrain, roughly 45 minutes. The Lakkavalli side, near the Bhadra dam, is approached from Tarikere and is further.
Safari
- Jungle safaris are run by the forest department and their partners, usually in the early morning and late afternoon.
- Seats are limited, so book ahead where possible and check timings, which change with the season.
- The reserve may be closed for safaris during the peak monsoon.
Tips
Wear muted colours, keep quiet and carry binoculars. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the forest itself is beautiful.
Questions travellers ask
Can I see tigers at Bhadra?
Tigers live here but sightings are rare. Gaur, deer, elephants and birds are much more common.
