Winter is the most popular season in Chikkamagaluru. Mornings are cold enough for a jacket, afternoons are bright and the views from the peaks are at their clearest.

Weather

Daytime highs are usually in the mid twenties, while nights and early mornings drop to around 12 to 15°C in the valleys and lower at Mullayanagiri. Rain is rare.

Why winter is special

  • Clear views from Mullayanagiri and Z Point.
  • Coffee harvest, with red cherries on the plants and drying yards full of beans.
  • Bonfires feel perfect after sunset.
  • Trekking season for Kudremukh and other trails.

Crowds and booking

Christmas, New Year and long weekends in January are the busiest times of the year. Book villas six to eight weeks ahead for those dates. Weekdays in January and February are much calmer.

What to wear

Layers. A thermal or warm inner, a fleece or jacket, a beanie for early drives and comfortable shoes. Afternoons can be warm enough for a t-shirt.
