- Quieter
- Chikmagalur
Both are coffee country, both are a comfortable drive from Bengaluru. Both are beautiful. But they feel different.
Scenery
Chikkamagaluru has higher peaks, including Mullayanagiri, the highest point in Karnataka, plus big grassland ridges. Coorg (Kodagu) is more rolling, with dense forests, rivers and valleys.
Things to do
- Chikmagalur: peaks, treks, waterfalls, Chandra Drona Parvatha, Kudremukh plus the Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebidu nearby.
- Coorg: Abbey Falls, Raja’s Seat, Dubare elephant camp, Talakaveri, the Tibetan settlement at Bylakuppe and Kodava culture.
Crowds
Both get busy on long weekends. Coorg tends to have more tourists overall. The Mullayanagiri side of Chikkamagaluru is quieter once you are away from the main viewpoints.
Why not both?
They are about 170 km apart. Many travellers do three nights in each. See our Coorg to Chikmagalur route.
