Ayyanakere is a large, old lake near Sakharayapatna, set at the foot of Shakunagiri hill. It is believed to date back many centuries and is fed by streams coming off Chandra Drona Parvatha. The scene of the still water with hills behind it is lovely at sunrise.
Getting there
About 32 km from Tranquil Terrain, roughly an hour. It works well combined with a drive towards Kadur or with Belur on a temple day.
What to do
- Walk along the old bund.
- Climb Shakunagiri hill if you are up for a short trek.
- Watch for birds on the water, especially in the cooler months.
