Galikere is a small lake tucked into the hills beyond Chandra Drona Parvatha. What makes it special is the setting: rolling grassland on every side, patches of dark shola forest in the folds and clouds drifting at eye level on many days.
Getting there
About 25 km from us. Take the Chandra Drona Parvatha road and continue past the shrine. The last stretch can be rough, so a car with decent ground clearance helps, especially after rain.
Why go
- It is much quieter than the main viewpoints.
- The meadows are perfect for a short walk and photographs.
- Late afternoon light here is beautiful.
Good to know
There are no shops or toilets. Carry water and snacks and bring your trash back. Leeches are common in the monsoon, so wear socks and carry salt or a leech repellent spray.
