Sringeri is a temple town on the Tunga river and the seat of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham, the first of the four maths established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. The Sharada temple and the 14th century Vidyashankara temple stand next to each other on the riverbank.

Getting there

About 74 km from Tranquil Terrain, roughly 2 hours through Koppa side roads and plantations.

What to see

  • The Vidyashankara temple, built in stone with 12 pillars carved with the zodiac signs. Sunlight is said to fall on the matching pillar through the year.
  • The Sharada temple.
  • The river ghats, where big fish gather to be fed by visitors.
  • The footbridge across the Tunga to the Narasimha Vana side.

Tips

Meals are served to devotees at the math. Dress modestly. Sirimane Falls is about 15 km away if you want to add a waterfall.
