Visakhapatnam is a long way from the coffee hills of Karnataka, but getting here is easier than it sounds. Fly into one of three airports near us and drive the last few hours through some lovely country.
Fastest way: fly and drive
A flight from Visakhapatnam to Bengaluru takes roughly 1 hour 45 minutes. Direct flights to Bengaluru are frequent. Some days you can also connect via Hyderabad to Shivamogga.
- Take a morning flight to Bengaluru (BLR), Mangaluru (IXE) or, with a connection, Shivamogga (RQY).
- Pick up a self-drive car or book a taxi. We can arrange an airport taxi if you share your flight details.
- From Bengaluru airport drive about 285 km via Tumakuru, Tiptur and Kadur. From Mangaluru drive about 160 km up the Charmadi Ghat. From Shivamogga it is about 95 km via Tarikere.
- From Chikkamagaluru town take the road towards Hirekolale and Ulluvagilu to Tranquil Terrain.

If your flight lands in Bengaluru after 2 PM, consider a night in the city and an early start the next morning. The last hour of the drive is through hills and it is nicer in daylight.
By train
Long distance trains from Visakhapatnam reach Bengaluru (KSR, Yesvantpur or SMVT Bengaluru). From Yesvantpur there is a daily express to Chikkamagaluru. Trains on the Shivamogga line stop at Kadur and Birur. It is a long journey, so most guests prefer to fly. Check IRCTC for current schedules.
Make the most of the trip
Coming all the way from Visakhapatnam, give yourself at least three nights. That leaves a full day for Mullayanagiri and Chandra Drona Parvatha, a slow day at the villa with the estate walk and a bonfire plus a day trip to Belur and Halebidu. Our 3 day itinerary lays it out.
