Hebbe Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls around Chikkamagaluru. The water drops in two stages, called Dodda Hebbe (big) and Chikka Hebbe (small), into a rocky pool surrounded by forest.

Getting there

Drive to Kemmangundi. Private cars are not allowed on the last stretch, which runs through private estate land. Local jeeps take you about 8 km down a rough track. Then it is a short walk with a stream crossing to the falls. Jeep fares are fixed by the operators, so ask the current rate at the jeep stand.

Tips

  • Wear sandals or shoes that can get wet.
  • Do not climb on the rocks near the drop. They are very slippery.
  • During heavy monsoon the falls can be closed for safety.
  • Leeches are common from June to October.

Questions travellers ask

Can I drive my own car to Hebbe Falls?

No. The last part is a rough estate track and you need to take one of the local jeeps from near Kemmangundi.

Is swimming allowed at Hebbe Falls?

Paddling in the shallow pool is common, but swimming under the falls is dangerous and best avoided.
